DNP3 Support
Ethernet (TCP/IP) communication is possible for machines that support DNP3.
What is DNP3?
DNP3 (Distributed Network Protocol) is a communication protocol widely used in the electric power and water supply industries, especially in remote monitoring and control of electric power and water supply equipment.
Since it allows realtime data communication and control, DNP3 is often deployed within automated systems, where it is used to facilitate smooth communication between master station (the central control room in many cases) and field devices such as substations or pumping stations.
Moreover, this protocol provides features such as error checks to ensure the integrety of data, and redundancy to continue data transmission in the event of power supply interruption or missing data. These features allow DNP3 to realize highly secure communication in the fields of electric power and water supply.
By converting DNP3 to OPC UA communication, the OPC UA Client function included in SCADA systems can perform integrated control and monitoring.
In addition, DeviceXPlorer OPC Server also supports other communication protocols for electric power systems, such as IEC 60870-5-104 and IEC 61850 MMS.
